Volunteers Are the Heart of Our Pantry

Sunday, February 15, 2026|By Nancy Cromley

From sorting donations to delivering groceries, our volunteers make everything possible. Here is how you can get involved.

Behind every bag of groceries that leaves our pantry, there is a volunteer who made it happen. The Green Apple Pantry runs on the energy, compassion, and dedication of people in our community who give their time to help their neighbors.

How Volunteers Help

Our volunteers fill many roles. Pantry intake volunteers greet families, help with registration, and ensure everyone feels welcome. Personal shoppers walk alongside clients to help them select groceries that meet their dietary needs and preferences.

Stockers keep our shelves organized and stocked with donated and purchased items. Drivers pick up food donations from local stores, food banks, and community drives. During our quarterly USDA Commodity Distribution events, we need all hands on deck to sort, pack, and distribute boxes to hundreds of families.

Getting Involved

Whether you have a few hours a week or can help with a one-time event, we would love to have you. Groups are welcome too. Churches, businesses, school clubs, and Scout troops regularly volunteer at the pantry as a team.

To learn more or sign up, visit our Get Involved page or call us at (616) 455-9411. We will find the right fit for your schedule and interests.

To every volunteer who has walked through our doors — thank you. You are the heart of this pantry.
