Our community continues to feel the impacts of COVID-19, especially those neighbors facing food insecurity. The economic impact of this pandemic means more and more individuals are turning to us for help in ensuring they know where their next meal will come from. The Green Apple has seen demand increase by 30% since March of 2020.
In response, we are pleased to announce that The Green Apple has joined forces with the Meijer Simply Give hunger relief program during this difficult time to help fill that void for our local families.
Each Simply Give campaign helps more than 250 food pantries in Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky and Wisconsin keep their shelves stocked with food for those in need. But it also fosters a sense of community by encouraging customers to purchase $10 Simply Give donation cards, which are then converted into Meijer food-only gift cards and given to the local food pantry selected by the store.
The Green Apple will benefit from donation cards purchased at the Cascade Meijer (5531 28th st SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49512) store from Sunday April 11th through July 3rd.
We want to encourage you to help us fulfill our mission of helping feed the hungry in south east Kent county by purchasing a food donation card during your next shopping trip. Tell your friends, relatives, neighbors and co-workers because every dollar makes a difference.
And when we give, Meijer gives. For every $10 Simply Give donation card purchased on Saturday, June 19th Meijer will double match the donation meaning they will donate an additional $20. This means our pantry will receive a total of $30 for every $10 a customer donates on those days.
